Big Bird and its smaller sibling Birdy, designed by Isidro Ferrer in collaboration with master Fallas artisan Manolo Martín, are extraordinary examples of traditional vareta woodcarving. Using fine wooden strips to form sculptural “skins,” each piece captures the elegance of birds in flight with glowing spheres of light. Both lamps embody LZF’s vision of blending art, nature, and craftsmanship into modern design. Every Big Bird and Birdy is handmade, ensuring each piece is distinct, showcasing the raw beauty and individuality of its natural materials.
LZF Lamps, founded in 1994 near Valencia by Mariví Calvo and Sandro Tothill, pioneered “enveloping light” in wood veneer. Today, the brand crafts sculptural, sustainable designs that blend artistry and warmth, celebrated worldwide.

Winner of Spain’s National Design Award in 2002, he created LZF’s Funny Farm characters and life-size Elephant and Fish.
