The capsule of light. Estela is a captivating capsule of light. In Estela, Mayice designed a clean, clear, single piece of borosilicate glass. Hand-blown by the accomplished artisan Eduardo Garuti, the glass envelopes a cylinder-like wood veneer diffuser. The wood veneer houses a dimmable LED light source, and a straight opening on one side emits downward light that is softened by the glass. Offering a seamless connection between both glass and wood, Estela is a radiant lamp with a celestial-like quality. Similar to Dune, Estela’s natural imperfections, a characteristic of hand-blown glass, add to its warmth and elegance The new Estela floor version completes the family, wrapping the characteristic LZF natural wood veneer with a 170 cm high glass cylinder.

LZF is a story of people, wood and light and the result of a peculiar encounter between two strangers. When they met, they both loved their hands and what they were capable of doing with them. Both shared a passion for the arts, for ideas, and experimenting. They coincided in their way of living and their very distinct view of the world. With an absolute belief that everything you feel can be materialised, they began to experiment. Till one night, playing with some wood veneers, they managed to envelop light. LZF was born.
Madrid-based Mayice Studio, a multidisciplinary product design and architecture practice, was established in 2013 by Imanol Calderón Elósegui and Marta Alonso Yebra. With a sharp focus on materials—respecting both history and functionality—each design by Mayice Studio is presented with its own inherent personality, and aims to reflect the soul of a material. In much of Mayice Studio’s work, we find an intelligent dialogue between craft and technology. In all Mayice’s work with glass, the reflection and refraction of light have always been very important, with the intention that wood, light and glass build a dialogue. The collection reflects respect for the environment, the authentic and the natural, as well as the ethereal and the dreamlike.
